About this project
Whose University? tracks academic-work openings in India and examines how faculty vacancies are disclosed in the parliamentary record. It keeps two registers together: advertised recruitments and the public record on vacancies in centrally-funded higher-education institutions.
Vacancies
A feed of advertised positions across Central Universities, IITs, IIMs, NITs, IIITs, AIIMS, and major private universities. Most listings are scraped from institutional career pages; some are parsed from PDFs; rare hand-entered records carry a yellow ⚑ manual entry badge. Each listing includes a confidence grade.
The Gap
An analysis of parliamentary questions on faculty vacancies in centrally-funded HEIs, September 2020 to March 2026. In the strict faculty-vacancy corpus, 252 questions were tabled across the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. One answer — RS AU365 of 23 July 2025, to Shri Mallikarjun Kharge — disclosed vacancy by rank and category. Most other answers substituted cumulative "Mission Mode" recruitment counters for vacancy figures.
Sources and data pipeline
Listings. The listings page follows the career and recruitment pages of roughly 185 institutions. The site checks those pages on a schedule, keeps a dated record of what it saw, and marks entries that have closed, disappeared, or could not be confirmed in the latest sweep. The code used to collect the listings is public.
The Gap corpus. The Gap is based on Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha questions and answers published on the parliamentary websites. The analysis keeps the questions that concern faculty vacancies in centrally-funded higher education institutions: 252 strict matches, with 429 broader related records. The charts are calculated from those public answers and sourced in the bibliography on The Gap page.
No warranty; verify before applying
Listings are scraped, parsed, and occasionally hand-entered from public recruitment material. Errors are possible: stale links, extraction mistakes, missing posts, or transcription gaps. Verify the official advertisement and application portal before applying.
Independence and use at own risk
The site is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of any institution listed. The maintainer makes no warranty about the accuracy, completeness, currency, or availability of any position. The site is an index, not an application intermediary, and stores no application records.
Analytical content
Material in The Gap is the maintainer's research interpretation of publicly available parliamentary records, court orders, and Ministry of Education communications, all cited in that tab's bibliography. It is research-and-reference commentary, not legal advice and not an allegation against any named individual.
